Welcome to Fantasy Game of Thrones: Season 8

Introduction

Each of the six teams in the League will form a House by drafting characters into slotted positions during a live draft like in other Fantasy Sports. Remember that ultimately, this is a friendly competition and we are all adults. If there are issues, just talk it out and come to some agreement. Game of Thrones is awesome, let's keep it that way.

Draft Order: Each House will be assigned a random draft order number 48 hours before the Live Draft starts. Teams will then follow the standard system of 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1, 1… when selecting from the online character roster. (randomizer results will be posted on the site once they are drawn)

Scoring & Substitutions

Characters accumulate positive or negative points throughout each weekly episode based on the Scoring Table. Each Team’s score is calculated by the accumulative season-wide total of its active characters.

Unlike other Fantasy Sports, the bonds of blood in GoT Fantasy Battle are unbreakable. There are no trades or waivers. Each House will be allowed two Bench Slots which can be played in the place of fallen (or awful) characters. A House Leader may choose to substitute a Bench character any time during the season, but substituted players must then remain active throughout the rest of the season. When a bench substitution is made, that sub’s running total of points is then used to calculate the House’s total score and the score of the character being removed is then disregarded (or used as fuel for smack-talk and shaming). Suicides do not count as Character Kills but do incur Death Penalties.

Note that late enough in the season, even a dead character may have accumulated enough points to be more valuable than a less successful living character.

Strategy Modifiers

These are points awarded to the Teams themselves (not individual Characters) to encourage additional strategic thinking and pre-planning. Examples of Strategy Modifiers include team-killing and owning the MVP of each week's episode. Points earned for these modifiers are accumulated as a running total throughout the Season and are awarded after each episode. Modifier points are recorded on the "Strategy Modifiers" line of each Team's Roster Card and get added to the total score normally.

Disputes & Mid-Season Calculations

Each character’s score will be calculated after each episode. Each House leader is encouraged to tally the scores of their characters to verify the totals determined by the Commissioner. If there is a difference in perceived score, a simple discussion should resolve the issue. If there is a seemingly unresolvable dispute, the result will be determined by a single coin toss. If a character's scoring is in any way unclear at any point in the season, best guesses and practical sense will be applied to determine running totals – with the caveat that scores for previous episodes may be updated based on the revelation of pertinent information later in the season.

An important precedent that illustrates this situation is the case of former King “Total Douchebag” Joffrey’s assassination. It was several episodes later that the perpetrators were established. Prior to the admitted guilt by Lady Olena and Littlefinger, those points would have been considered “up for grabs”. Also note that in this case, these two characters would be awarded points for the kill because they orchestrated it. Given the situation, Sansa would be considered “the murder weapon” and would not be awarded points as she was not a knowing / willing accomplice.

Lastly, please remember... if your team gets totally wrecked... don't blame me! :)
